Private lessons at your home are the ultimate way to train your puppy or dog. People may think it is costly but if you do your sums you will find it is not the case. The savings will far outweigh the cost.

Club/Group Courses
This can be an enjoyable hobby and often produce very good results if you have the time and dedication. It can be very confusing and intimidating for both handler and dog. Generally children cannot participate and our view is that they are most important and require teaching with the dog. Often a lot of conflicting advice is received due to not having the same instructor every week. Generally very little individual attention is given to you and your dog. Most at home problems can't be addressed in a group situation.
Boot Camp
In our opinion, the owner should always be present when the dog is being trained. It is equally as important that the owner learns and understands how to handle and train the dog so the dog respects you the owner as the master, not the trainer at the kennels. Dogs should only be trained in this manner if you are physically incapable of handling the dog, in most cases the dog will revert back to it's original behaviour within a matter of weeks.
We do not recommend this type of training as generally people who do not have time to train their dog do not have time to own and enjoy their dog.
Puppy Pre-Schools
We totally disagree with this concept. People are generally told this is important for socialisation. Nothing in our opinion could be further from the truth. Puppies do not socialise with dogs out of their pack in strange environments. The highest percentage of dogs we attend to with anti social and undesirable behaviour have been to puppy pre-schools.
The first 18 weeks in a pup's life is the most crucial learning period therefore pups should be trained in and around their own environment. Owners should receive assistance from a very experienced dog trainer in relation to puppy rearing and training to suit their individual pup's character and temperament .
Books and Videos
Would you try to learn how to train and ride a horse from a book or a video? If you would we doubt you would have much success. Horses spend most of their lives in a paddock. Dogs spend most of their lives in and around your home and family. There are many variables in dogs, not only breeds but also characters, temperaments and disposition. There are many good books written about dogs and just as many not so good. The book that is right for one dog can be totally wrong for another, even of the same age and breed.
We find most people that try to train their dog with a book end up with a very confused dog not to mention a confused owner. Imagine trying to fix a motor mower with a Mercedes manual. It just doesn't suit the mower. The same applies to most dogs with books and videos.
Advice from well meaning people
Don't take it! What is right for one dog can be totally unsuitable for another. Unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation in relation to dog training that can confuse the owner and dog with disastrous results.
DIY Dog Training
Many people think they are born with a natural ability to train dogs, very few people have a natural ability to train a dog to be an enjoyable companion without professional assistance. Results are evident by the high failure rate of those that try.
